William D. Britt Jr. Member
A native of South Carolina, Will Britt attended Wofford College, where he received a Bachelor of Science degree in psychology in 1992. Will then attended graduate school at The Citadel, earning a Master of Education degree in school psychology in 1995. Will received his Juris Doctor degree from the University of South Carolina in 1999.
As a practicing attorney, Will first worked with a large, regional firm, where he practiced primarily in the areas of construction and business litigation. As part of Will’s construction practice, he not only represented owners, developers and contractors in litigation, but he also drafted contracts, negotiated work outs, and advised clients regarding matters such as liability insurance coverage and bond claims. Will also represented clients in matters of zoning and commercial debt collection.
At Bruner Powell, Will’s practice has broadened to include complex business, construction and professional malpractice litigation in which he represents business owners, property owners, contractors, subcontractors, material suppliers, lawyers, financial institutions, nurses, health care providers and others. Will also provides contract review and drafting services, advises boards of directors as to matters involving by-laws, policies and procedures, and investigates and renders legal opinions to health care providers regarding patient care incidents and HIPAA and DHEC compliance. Will continues to litigate insurance coverage disputes relating to commercial general liability insurance policies and also litigates actions involving commercial leases under Article 2A of the Uniform Commercial Code and negotiable instrument cases under Articles 3 and 4. Will is admitted to practice before all state and federal courts of South Carolina as well as the Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals.
The son of a United Methodist minister, Will was born in Myrtle Beach, but moved frequently with his father’s work, spending his formative years in Spartanburg and Charleston. He and his wife, the former Kathryn Reese, who is also an attorney, now call Columbia home. They have two daughters and one son and are active members of Trenholm Road United Methodist Church. Will is an avid runner and tennis player, and when not practicing law or watching his children’s soccer games and dance recitals, Will can be found on the local tennis courts or training for his next road race.
